Eastern Gauteng Aquatics Short Course Winter Championships

Swimming has two seasons. A short Course Winter season, and a Long Course summer season.

A great team spirit pushed a proud team of Piranhas who raced to swim their best times. Piranha’s had several top age group performers at this 2019 event.

Junior swimmers swam “Timed Finals”. This translates to top times in heats being converted to final positions. The 15 and over age group swam heats in the morning and finals in the afternoon. Points are scored by qualifying for final events. A hard weekend of racing. Kyle and Bernelee swam 20 race pace events in 2 days. This is taxing on an athlete’s body.

The Aquatic Academy recognised these top performances, awarding trophies for top seniors and juniors, and point scorers.

First Place: Bernelee Doster (Top Senior girl) scored 191 points winning 7 gold, and taking 3 silver in the 10 events offered.

Second Place: Annebel Van Wyk scored 190 points ( Top Junior girl) winning 7 gold, coming in second for two and 1 third place.

Third Place: Kyle McKenzie scored 185 points (Top Senior boy) winning 5 gold and 5 silver.

Fourth Place: Clayton Malaza scored 154 points winning 2 silver and 3 bronze medals.

Fifth Place: Mikayla Pon scored 137.5 points winning 2 bronze medals. Mikayla swam in the top 5 in most of her events scoring these points for the club.
