Eastern Gauteng Senior Championships


At the beginning of August, a small team of 6 Aquatic/ ESP Piranha swimmers, took part in the Eastern Gauteng Senior Championships.

Kyle Mckenzie scored 149 points scoring points in 9 finals and winning 3 gold, 1 silver and 7 bronze medals.

Clayton Malaza qualified in 9 finals adding 108 points to the ESP Piranha’s score. Clayton won 1 silver and 1 bronze medal. In the breaststroke events, Kyle and Clayton made the Academy very proud - scoring a gold and silver in the 100m event, and a gold and bronze in the 50 meter event.

Bernelee Doster who celebrated her 14 birthday on the first day of this competition, succeed in winning 2 gold medals in the 14/ 15 Age group.

Bernelee was awarded the Academy top “Time Smasher” trophy, swimming a further 5 best times (after having lowered 8 times the previous week at the Eastern Gauteng Junior Championships, where she won the award for the top point scorer of the Eastern Junior Championships)

Competing at the Senior event, Bernelee scored 91 points, qualifying in this highly competitive age group, for 6 finals…… and she had to dance at the State Theatre every evening in the School Revue!
